Bird Project
The MCC Bird Project was launched in Spring 2012 with the objective of raising the profile of birds in the Catchment. It includes educational and research activities, resources for people interested in the birdlife of the catchment and opportunities to contribute towards knowledge of the catchment birds.
MCCG Research Collaboration with QUT: 2012 to 2014
Four all-weather acoustic sensors were loaned to the MCCG by researchers at the Queensland University of Technology for two years. These sensors were placed in specific habitats on eight properties throughout the Catchment to record the sounds within the habitat 24hrs a day for ten days during each of the four seasons. The recordings, which are the property of the MCCG are stored at QUT as a permanent record of the birds and other fauna in the Catchment. A scientific sample of sections of the recordings has been tagged by volunteers using the workbench website provided by QUT. Reports on the data are available.
Continuing bird research
The systematic collection, recording and collating of observations of birds and their behaviour by members of the Catchment and other observers from Bird Life Southern Queensland and Birds Queensland has been continuous since the start of the Bird Project.
A diverse number of sightings continue to be made in our Deerhust Park site. Click here to read more.
There are presently nine sites within the Catchment whose data is incorporated into the Moggill Creek Catchment site’s “Lists and Species” from sightings recorded on the eBird website. You can view the list of sites and learn how to submit your own data by reading the following document:
